Article 1. Governing Body
6-101 Conduct of election.
The non-partisan election of city officials shall be conducted in all respects as provided by the laws of Kansas governing the holding of city elections.

6-102 Hours of voting.
At all city elections the polls shall be open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m., unless different hours are set and publicly announced by the county election officer.

6-103 Governing body elections; terms.
Every two years an election shall be held for a mayor, and five council members. The mayor and council members shall hold their offices for two years and until their successors are elected and qualified. General elections shall take place on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November 2017. Succeeding elections will be held every two years for all such governing body positions whose terms have expired.
Those governing body positions with terms expiring in April 2017 shall expire on the second Monday in January of 2018, when the city officials elected in the November 2017 general election take office. The position of Mayor which would have expired in April 2017, shall expire on the second Monday in January of 2018, when the Mayor elected in the November 2017 general election takes office.

6-104 Commencement of terms of office; oath of office.
The term of office for newly elected councilmembers and mayor shall commence at the regular meeting January meeting following the county election officer’s certification of election results. The elected officers shall qualify by taking the oath or affirmation of office to be filed with the city clerk.

6-105 Candidacy.
In accordance with K.S.A. 25-205 and K.S.A. 25-21a01 et seq., any person may become a candidate for city office by having had filed, on their behalf, either of the following:
